This plated, urethane-coated pot-metal facsimile of a bristlecone pine weighs close to two pounds. It sits on our rounded fireplace shelf, its hook dangling tongue-like through the loops of the children&#8217;s two empty Christmas stockings.<\/p>\n<p>It waits.
