#a19 :: Raccoon skull

March 3, 2008

030308.jpgSome days you’re the windshield and some days you’re the bug.

I’ve felt pretty windshieldy the past few days – terrific geekfest demo of a Facebook app I’ve been collaborating on. Job offer landed with an excellent company that I’ve been contracting for. Basement renovation project coming to fruition. Massive simultaneous re launch Sunday of the global blogging network of 55 sites that I help run.

Plus, there my kids are funnyBut it’s all catching up with me, and I’m feeling like a windshield coated with bugs – crusty, smelly and unclear.

Pare it all down to the bone, and life is good. But I’ve been up till stupid hours of the morning, and right now I’m feeling like all calicified and skeletal, running on 5 hours sleep, with a cold coming on.

This raccoon skull probably served its owner well for a few years – the teeth are clean and sharp, the bones stout. But as with all things, the world caught up with it.

To add insult to injury, its second owner had a hard time reflecting its dignity in a decent photograph – too short on sleep to reshoot tonight, but perhaps in the morning.

There’s another saying: Sometimes you’re the dog, and sometimes you’re the hydrant.

Tomorrow, inspired by this late mammal’s gorgeous canines, I’ll be channeling my inner dog.

Bedtime. Nightnight.

(A day later) Aaahhh, there we go. 030408.jpg

    Excellent might be overstating it. Good company, yes. 🙂
